NOTD - Layla Magneffect Black Metal 12 (Swatch)

Just a quick post to share my NOTD or shall I say Nail of the Nite. I purchased a gift certificate via KGB and ordered a few polishes from Aveyou. I've been lemming Alessandro Go Magic's for so long but they're close to impossible to find in the US, so I quickly ordered up a few Layla's. Tonight I'm wearing Black Metal but I also ordered Purple Galaxy and Golden Nugget.

The polish applied relatively easy. It is on the thicker side but I guess it has to be in order to work it's magic. I used two coats, 1 thin and 1 thick, and held the magnet near the nail for about 5 seconds. You can angle the magnet to make the lines look how you want. Next time I may try more horizontal lines. Overall it was pretty easy to do but I can imagine it make be more difficult for longer nails. I wasn't sure about the topcoat but I applied one just in case. All of the pics are without a topcoat.

It looks more silver/chrome in the bottle but it darkens after the magnet is applied.

Overall these polishes are pretty sweet but a little pricey. If I could change anything I would make the magnet more round/angled so that it could make lines in the corners of the nail in addition to the middle. It's still a neat effect and I look forward to wearing these throughout the Fall.

I purchased my Layla's from Aveyou but they have also been spotted at Walgreens.

Julep Boris & Nicole + Nyx Gilded Glitter Topcoat

Happy Thursday! Are you ready for some footballlllll??? I know I'm not, lol. Every year I promise Hubby I'll learn the game but I never do. I'm so silly because I know I can learn the game if I actually put forth effort, or at least I hope I can if a 7 year old can learn the game. I'm not ready for football but I'm ready for more great performances and commercials :)

Tonight I'm sharing the polish from my September Julep box, Boris & Nicole. I was excited to get this polish because it's named after a glamorous Hollywood couple but I was a little disappointed once I seen it in real life. It was not as red as I had hoped but my disappointment was immediately relieved after I applied the polish because it's quite gorgeous. Boris & Nicole is a warm brownish-red with dark golden shimmer that gives it a slight glow. I used 2 coats to get it opaque.

To add a little more glam I added 1 layer of Nyx Gilded Glitter a golden glitter-flakie topcoat. I love the combination.

That's all for tonight. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the game if you're watching :)

NOTD - Revlon Facets of Fuschia

Hello beauties! I hope you had a long, relaxing and fun weekend like I did. I'm so happy I spent time with my family. Hubby and I began teaching my youngest daughter how to ride a bike and my oldest daughter how to play Double Dutch (well hubby didn't really help with that). We also had nice weather in our area and plenty of sunshine for good swatches.

On Friday I went to Target and picked up Facets of Fuchsia. I skipped over it the first time because I have a Hot Topic polish very similar, but then I caved after viewing a few beautiful swatches.

So here's my NOTD. I used one coat of Facets of Fuchsia over SpaRitual Blue Moon (dark blurple) and I love how it turned out. I hope it's not too bold for work because I'm wearing it tomorrow ;)

indirect light
direct sunlight

It's hardly noticeable but my daughter's jump rope is in the background. I've been trying to teach her Double Dutch for the last few days. It took a while to hunt down the rope. It's an old fashioned plastic clothesline (yes I'm old school, lol) that I eventually found at Home Depot. I don't remember it as a kid but it's quite a good workout. We played for 30 minutes and she would not give me a turn so I mainly got a good arm workout............. did I tell you how much I love this polish. I used Poshe quick-dry over 1 coat of Wet N' Wild.

Well I have to go now and enjoy the rest of my weekend with family. Tomorrow is back to reality for me. Thanks for stopping by and have a good evening.

OPI Miss Universe Collection Swatches and Review

Good morning beauties! Despite my best efforts to sleep in, I just couldn't. I think I'm far too caffeinated to get a good nights rest so I thought it would be a great time to share a few swatches.

The OPI Miss Universe Collection is Limited Edition and it's available at retailers now.

Crown Me Already. The glitter bomb and my favorite from the collection. It has a clear base and it's packed with silver micro and large hex glitter. My camera just doesn't do this polish justice. The first picture is more color accurate.

2 coats

3 coats

Swimsuit...Nailed It! A gorgeous bright blue with fine micro-glitter that gives it a foil finish. This one is really stunning although I may have something similar in my stash already. Two coats are all that were needed.

Congeniality is My Middle Name. A beautiful wine creme with pink and purple shimmer. In direct light it flashes pink-purple and the shimmer is obvious. I used 3 coats.

In natural light it appears lighter and the shimmer is not as evident.

It's My Year. A purple base with golden microglitter. The finish is similar to Rally Pretty Pink but it's more of a purple foil finish. There's also a duochrome effect. In direct light it's more of a golden-purple. In the shade it's a darker prettier purple. This is my second favorite from the collection. I used 2 coats but could have gone with a third.

All of the polishes had a great formula and applied smoothly with little problems. Overall the set is a small yet cute tribute to pageant fans but they are worth owning even if pageants aren't your thing.

~the polishes above were provided for review~

Revlon Glitter Swatches Fall 2011

Have you heard that Revlon produced a few hot glitters for the Fall? Well it's true and I had a chance to pick up a couple of the beauties. A pink glitter that's tame enough to wear to work, sign me up! But first I'll share my second favorite from the collection.

Blue Mosaic is like Charla on steroids. It has a clear base and its packed with small teal glitter, and mid-sized silver, teal and green hex glitter. I used 2 coats over 1 coat of Sinful Colors San Francisco.

My favorite from the collection is
Starry Pink. It has a milky-pink base and its packed with small and medium silver hex glitter. The glitter effects is not as prominent here because it gets lost under the milky base. I like that its a mild glitter and may be work appropriate for some. I used 1 coat over Maybelline Pink Twirl. If you prefer a power glitter you can load up the nail with multiple coats :)

I left behind Facets of Fuschia, the Lippmann dupe, but it may hold you over if you've been lemming Bad Romance. You can find these beauties at Target.
