Color Club Spring 2013 Halo Hues Collection - Swatches and Review

Spring time is approaching and that means it's time for some Holo fun! Today I have the Color Club Halo Hues to share with you.

I originally wanted to do swatches in the sunlight and indoors under artificial light, but the holographic bling in the sun was too much for my camera. I believe I was able to capture their true beauty under artificial light though. They all required the same number of coats and had a similar holographic effect, so I hope you don't mind I reviewed them all at the end.

Cosmic Fate - Neutral holographic that leans peach.

Kismet - Golden lime.

Eternal Beauty - Amazing light purple.

Over The Moon - Ahhhh, I'm in love with this beautiful blue.

Beyond - Charcoal grey.

Beyond - indirect light. I took this pic just for fun. I think it looks conservative yet edgy.

Miss Bliss - Golden pink holographic.

I used 2 coats of polish for all of the swatches and the pictures were all taken indoors under artificial lighting, with the exception of Miss Bliss.  They all went on smoothly with no issues in application.  I've read that some consider the formula thick, but I thought it was just right. Sometimes the thinner holographics require 3-4 coats to become opaque, but I was able to use 2 for full coverage.  They do dry quickly, so when applying you cannot go back over the nail with a dry brush if you made a mistake. You will have to dip the brush a second time, and repeat to avoid clotting/dragging. I believe this is why some consider the formula "thick" or "goopy".

I love the beauty of the Holos indoors and in the sunlight.  They all flash a wide linear golden holographic effect on the nail. The only thing I didn't like is the durability of the polish.  I wore Beyond to work and it had slight chipping at the end of the day. It also dulled when applying a topcoat like most other holos. This was the one time I didn't mind because of my work environment.

Overall I believe Color Club did a great job with the set.  My only critique besides durability is color selection. I have dupes or semi-dupes to most of the colors. I originally thought I would go head over heals for Eternal Beauty but the color is not as deep or dark as I had imagined.  They are still worth getting if you don't own similar colors.  In my opinion the most unique from the collection are Kismet and Cosmic Fate. My favorites are: Beyond, Cosmic Fate and Over the Moon.

  1. Have you tried sandwiching them with topcoat? Do about 2 coats of the holo, then your topcoat, and then another 1-2 coats of holo. You get the durability of the topcoat but without dulling the holo effect. I did this with a Layla holo & it lasted as well as a normal polish.

    1. Hi Tharvey. I've tried it in the past but not with Beyond. Hopefully it will work just as well. I didn't want the dramatic holo at work. Too distracting, LOL.
