Fun Dusty Hunting

Happy Friday! Hope you all had a great day. Last week I had a chance to go Dusty shopping. If you're not familiar with Dusty-ing, its where you shop Hair Salons, Beauty Supply Stores & Nail Salons for old polishes that are no longer available retail. I've only been twice, but the second time I went I had a bad experience so I shied away from it. Well last week I felt the urge to give it a try, so I set out for a little Dusty adventure.

To my surprise, everyone was really nice. I think it helped that I went early in the morning, before they were swamped with customers. I only looked for old China Glaze polishes because they are easy to spot due to the silver handle.

Here's what I found:

I'm so happy everything went well. As I get more comfortable I'll explore other polish collections and maybe even try to negotiate prices. The shops that I went too only sold China Glaze and OPI. I knew I could quickly spot the OMG's and make a run for it. I almost fainted when I thought I spotted Grape Crush, but it was Crystal Ball instead.

Part of me feels guilty for buying up all these gems, but if they've been sitting there for 2 years I guess they were meant for me. I'll definitely try this again now that I know to go during slow hours. I encourage you to try it also, but if you do, be sure to wear comfortable clothes. Most likely you'll have to squat, bend and peak through a looking glass to find the beauties you want :)

I almost forgot to post pics. I had to try IDK first because I've been wanting a purple holo for a very long time!
Thanks for stopping by!

I found my first dusty a week ago just chilling out in a walmart nail salon, it was China Glaze l8r g8r. I didn't buy it cause I wasn't crazy about the green, but I can't wait to go check the place again!

  6. Lovely dusty finds. I never thought about going earlier in the day so they wouldn't seem rushed or frazzled that I wasn't wanting a mani or pedi or something. Whenever I go I always find they get a little crabby when they realize I don't want to get my nails done. :P Congrats!

  10. @LWTT. I noticed that too. I guess they work on commission so they're disappointed.

@Kimberly. I glad it went well this time around so now I'm more comfortable :)

    @Allthingsnails. Thank you =D

@KarzU. I have better luck when I'm not looking for them. Hopefully you'll find them soon.

  16. You have a great loot there from your dusty hunting. I'm liking the Crystal Ball. Have you swatched that?

  17. Wow, great haul! Don't feel guilty for buying them--they're in a good home with you! If you were buying them up to list on eBay for crazy inflated prices, then I'd say different. :)

  18. So if it's Dusty-hunting, does that mean they are new or used? I've never heard of this before!

  20. @Rins. Not yet. I plan too soon :)

@Annelise. They are new, but you can buy old polishes if you like (and they are willing to sale them). They're called dusty because they usually have dust on them due to how old they are.

@Ali & Kee. The lowest price I've found is $6-7 for CG and $8 for OPI. I've yet to find a store that has 50% off but some report buying them for really low prices $3-4. If they're used, you may have a chance of getting it for a really low price, but I haven't tried that yet.

@Jackie. I plan on trying it again when I get more time.

@Karen D. Too funny, lol. I want them all for me :)
