I sprang my knee this weekend, so I had a lot of sitting time. I decided to go through my red polishes to figure out the best red for stamping. Sounds easy, but with so many reds it took longer than I thought. I was more interested in red over black because most reds stamp pretty good over white.
I was really disappointed with Konad Red, but not surprised because I've tried to stamp over black in the past. The Nabi Red Wine magnetic wasn't bad but was a mess to clean up.

I put my favorites on the nail wheel and added Konad Red for comparison. I was very impressed with the old school SH Chrome but it comes across more pink than red over black. The best from my collection would have to be Sally Hansen Racin' Red followed by Jessica Cinderella Red and then Nanacoco Jazz Lovers.
And here's another view of today's mani. I used Sally Hansen Racin' Red over Finger Paints Black Expressionism with the Bunny Nails image plate. I also tried nail glequins for the first time made famous by The Nailasaurus.

ReplyDeleteYes it does stain. Nail polish remover just smeared it around. I used a scrub brush with soap and water to get off the rest. There's still slight staining though, but nothing obvious.

DeleteOh my goodness, awesome post. I know how hard it can be to find a red that shows up over black, I was on a quest myself! I bought Konad red & the Jessica polish but was disappointed by the results. (I can link to my test pics if you allow links?) Finally I found No Miss "Palmdale Paprika" ~ pricey, but it works! I'm tempted to buy "Racin' Red" to see which works better.

ReplyDeleteHi Melissa. I just checked my bottle again. Its a Sally Hansen Insta-Dri polish in Racin' Red. I can't remember how long I've had it (probably a couple of years) but it's still available on Ebay. Racin' Red number 01. I'm not sure how Rapid Red compares. HTH.

DeleteMelissa, I have Rapid Red and it stamps extremely well, especially over lighter colors. It is not as vibrant over black as the Racin' Red appears in these photos, it looks closer to the Pure Ice Siren on the swatch wheel. Hope this helps! :)
